A Luxurious Morning: Breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City

During my recent visits to Mexico City, making time for coffee and breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton has become a cherished ritual. It is not so much the menu that inspires me to return but rather sitting on the edge of SAMOS, the hotel restaurant rising 58 stories above Cuauhtémoc, offering an expansive panorama that stretches from the lush greenery of Chapultepec Park to the vibrant streets of Paseo de la Reforma. Whether the city below is bathed in golden sunrise hues, intense city smog, or wrapped in soft morning mist, the scene is always breathtaking. From this vantage point, Mexico City reveals its dual nature—modern and historic, energetic and serene.

Seated by the floor-to-ceiling windows, I begin with a cappuccino, a ritual in itself. The rich aroma fills the air as I sip, savoring the perfect balance of boldness and smoothness. I find myself lingering over my cup, enjoying the subtle energy of the morning as the city begins to stir below. Starting the day with an early morning espresso is a tradition I love while on vacation, as it allows me to contemplate and lock in for the day ahead. These quiet moments are crucial in keeping me grounded as someone who plans trips packed with a full itinerary.

The Food

As with any experienced traveler, I’ve learned to manage my expectations with hotel restaurants. I’d much rather be pleasantly surprised than utterly disappointed, so I walk in hoping that I can at least order a solid cappuccino. I typically like to start my day on the light side, but when you’re eating your way through a city, sometimes you have to add breakfast that comes with a view.

The menu at SAMOS, the Ritz-Carlton’s signature restaurant, offers a blend of local and international flavors. I prefer their elevated takes on traditional Mexican breakfast dishes, like chilaquiles or huevos rancheros, but they also offer lighter options. Think avocado toast topped with vibrant microgreens or a delicate yogurt parfait layered with seasonal fruit and a drizzle of honey. On days when I merely want a few bites, their freshly baked pastries—from flaky croissants to buttery conchas—are my go-to choice. Of all the options I’ve indulged in, their signature Pan Francés (French Toast) has taken the top spot. Crafted using berries sourced from the Michoacán State, generously spiced with aromatic cinnamon, and elevated with the rich creaminess of mascarpone cheese, this exquisite sweet treat is a heavenly blend of flavors and textures that makes it an ideal choice for sharing and savoring together.

The Scene

The ambiance is the draw at SAMOS. A quiet morning overlooking the city’s skyline stays with you long after the coffee cup is empty and the view is just a memory. The dress code is “smart casual,” and the design of the space is modern, with soft neutral tones, polished surfaces, and carefully curated details that reflect the cosmopolitan energy of Mexico City.

Whether you’re visiting CDMX for the first time or returning for the hundredth, add this to your itinerary. Even if you’re not staying at The Ritz-Carlton, breakfast here is open to all and one you won’t forget.

Excellent service from a hospitality-first staff. Incredible warmth and generosity. Whatever you need, they’ll try their best to accommodate.

Why Book?

With each friend I share the city with, I always make an early morning reservation at The Ritz-Carlton Mexico City, as it is among the tallest viewpoints in the CDMX, and the sight is such a marvel! It’s a place to pause, reflect, and start the day with intention and gratitude. The combination of breathtaking views, coffee, and impeccable service makes you feel not just cared for but genuinely inspired.
