My jaw actually dropped when I walked inside Morning Glory, the4,000-square-foot restaurant located in San Diego’s Little Italy. Designed by Bastile Studio and owned by the prolific restaurant group Consortium Holdings, this massive space is one of the most stunning environments to enjoy brunch, cocktails, and coffee. Every color, curve, fabric, fixture, and flower that I laid my eyes on sent me into a design spiral. I was overwhelmed in the best way possible. The abundance of pink hues and unique shapes transported me to a wonderland I couldn’t have imagined before it. My mind was on hyperdrive taking memory snapshots of every nook and cranny in the space, hoping not to miss a moment. Bastile made a nod to Frank Lloyd Wright in the restaurant’s hand-crafted walnut wood and brass fixtures, another attribute that sent me over the edge in this a dècor paradiso.

With such drastic changes transpiring around the globe, I’ve doubled down on my passions. My commitment to seeking out the most beautiful restaurants in the world is a practice that satiates my curiosity and one of the things that always brings me joy, no matter the circumstances. Surrounding myself with beauty is a crucial element to my life and Morning Glory offered an exceptional experience of interior design.

The Food

Open from 8 am - 3 pm, breakfast and brunch are the only intentions here. Start your day with something delectable or even debaucherous at this Little Italy gem. Chef Jason McLeod’s menu approaches the day’s most important meal from a global perspective, offering favorites like trendy soufflé pancakes from Japan, Georgian Khachapuri, and French omelets with goat cheese.

As a pleasure-seeking eater, I was floored at the sight of the Breakfast Carbonara made with bucatini, crispy pork belly, soft-poached egg, and Calabrian chili oil. There was no hesitation in my order and with my first taste, I was whisked away to a decadent dreamland filled with creamy bites of salted savory perfection. Eating something so rich for breakfast bordered on maniacal and I was absolutely delighted. The fluffed sweetness of the Soufflé Pancakes were a welcomed counterpart to my briny bowl of pasta. The two paired together made an exemplary breakfast duo,

The Scene

There will be a wait, be prepared. I have read that on the weekends it can take up to 2 hours to be seated but on my visit, it was approximately 45 minutes. The vibe is high at Morning Glory, with young women excited to take brunch photos, couples enjoying a date, friends gathering to try as many things on the menu, and everyone in between. This restaurant is a destination and the clientele reflects that. The space is loud, lively, and spirited, with a lot of things in motion. If you are seeking the opposite of chill, c’est parfait.

Price & Service

Cocktails $10 - $12, Entrees $7 - $18

If this restaurant was in Los Angeles the prices would be our outlandish new normal but Morning Glory is in San Diego, where you can enjoy 2 stunning cocktails for $20 and a latte for $4.50. For being one of the busiestrestaurants I’ve dined in for brunch, I was pleasantly surprised at the attentiveness and consideration exemplified by the staff. The restaurant is buzzing on all levels so I’d recommend honing in on your order and being prepared for when the server comes to take it.
