Ahi Tuna Tartare at The Church Key

I live for tartare – beef, ahi, or otherwise.

When invited to try The Church Key's lunch menu there was no hesitation on my end, as the last time I was there, I enjoyed tossing back some superb alcohol infused adult otter pops. This time I politely passed on the cocktails but said said an emphatic yes to the Ahi Tuna Tartare made with pomegranate, Greek Yogurt, pistachios, Serrano chili and served with a papdum.

This is one of those plates that you typically order to start your meal and share with a friend or date, but in this case, I was hoping my friend would forget all about it, while I scooped bite after bite into my mouth.

That's a rare thing for me, as I love to share! He was kind enough to see the tuna lust in my eyes and encouraged me to polish it off.

The buttery tuna slices melted in my mouth, while the pop of the pomegranate seeds ushered in another type of feeling. It took but a millisecond to understand why this coupling made sense. The yogurt and micro greens complimented the stars of the plate nicely, but I wouldn't miss the pistachios if they somehow disappeared. The flavors were near perfect and I left lunch wondering why I couldn't find this slice of heaven at all the other trendy L.A. restaurants. If you are looking for something light and near perfect, this needs to be bumped to the top of your list of things to eat.
