Iao Valley State Park, Maui

No vacation of mine goes without a visit to some sort of park, either National or State. While on the island, I made some time in my itinerary to visit the gorgeous Iao Valley State Park, located in West Maui. The temperature as expected was a bit cooler than the surrounding areas and for a moment I was convinced I had truly found paradise. The sound of the wind whistling through the trees made for a dreamy hike through the lush rainforest.

The Iao Needle is the most famous landmark in the state park (last photo), which rises 1,200 feet above ground. I kept imagining what kind of creatures must be living around that area which is far removed from the public. I was told there were lots of wild boar on the island but all I saw on my trip were super cool chickens like the one below. You cannot tell but this mother hen is keeping 6 little chicks warm!

Back from Maui

Last night I returned home from a much needed vacation, destination: Maui. I was thrilled to take this last minute adventure to meet my sister on the beautiful island and like with any trip NJ style, I made sure to pack in as much fun into every day. Here are just a few photos of the paradise I was so grateful to experience last week. I feel completely re-energized and as if someone pressed the reset button.

Major highlights includ snorkeling with giant sea turtles, surfing, hiking in lush forests and of course indulging in the culinary delights of the island. Stay tuned all week for the best of Maui!
