No vacation of mine goes without a visit to some sort of park, either National or State. While on the island, I made some time in my itinerary to visit the gorgeous Iao Valley State Park, located in West Maui. The temperature as expected was a bit cooler than the surrounding areas and for a moment I was convinced I had truly found paradise. The sound of the wind whistling through the trees made for a dreamy hike through the lush rainforest.
The Iao Needle is the most famous landmark in the state park (last photo), which rises 1,200 feet above ground. I kept imagining what kind of creatures must be living around that area which is far removed from the public. I was told there were lots of wild boar on the island but all I saw on my trip were super cool chickens like the one below. You cannot tell but this mother hen is keeping 6 little chicks warm!
