Last time I wrote about Good Girl Dinette I was covering a super cool 70′s inspired Vietnamese dinner party hosted by the Highland Park restaurant. My post now is motivated by the rain that has hit L.A and my desire to be cozy and warm. Whenever the weather takes a turn for the cold and wet I immediately develop a craving for Good Girl Dinette’s Chicken Pot Pie. Unfortunately, learning that I am gluten intolerant means that the pot pie will simply be a fantasy for now. Don’t worry, I haven’t given up hope (more on that later) but that doesn’t mean I cannot enjoy many other things GGD’s menu has to offer.
Hands down the Chicken Pot Pie is the best thing on the menu, a glorious blend of savory curry topped with a homemade biscuit. If you follow me on Instagram, you are well aware that curry runs through my veins, so this should come as no surprise. Having grown up surrounded by Vietnamese food in the SGV, eating this combination of Viet + diner food is a special treat! While I am a huge fan of the aforementioned dish, I wish I loved the spicy fries. The fries are topped with chilies, garlic, and cilantro but they do not translate to flavor in your mouth. These gems usually end up falling off the fries and you’re left with a plate full of the droppings, none of which are spicy. Bummer.
Looking for another dish to warm your spirits? You must order up the Beef Stew, braised with carrots in Vietnamese five-spice served with a side of white rice and seasonal greens. The broth is packed with flavors that will dance on your tongue and the beef tender with each bite. It sounds delish because it is! Add a Vietnamese Coffee to your order and I guarantee your night will be 10xs better.
