The Poncho

Poncho

So a girl walks into Barneys and tries on a poncho.  Hilarious already, no?  This past weekend I was up in the bay area and stopped by Barneys SF to enjoy some holiday shopping when I stumbled upon this Rogan poncho.  I guess I cannot say I’m “man repelling” (coined by one of my favorite blogs, The Man Repeller) if I’ve been in relationship for 7 years, but you get the idea. The color is what immediately drew me in, then I melted when my hands began stroking the soft wool from which it was made, in Peru no less.  I really wanted to leave the store with this in tow, but that’s not what I set out to do while on my little adventure.  Here’s hoping someone will be inspired to buy it for me here (update: looks like it sold out online). Yeah right!

When was the last time you wore a poncho?

Magic Maker

Because I wore shorts almost every day this summer, I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect pair to join my legs this fall.  I think I might have just found the perfect pair in these Vena Cava dorze shorts.  I took notes when blogger Jayne of Stop It Right Now said you shouldn’t post about something before buying it, but I could not help myself.  Combine magical shorts with this J.Crew Mongolian lamb tote and you are one Scott Cunningham spell away from being the teen witch you always wanted to be.

See shorts here, tote here.

Last night I was totally jamming to Phoenix and Gorillaz while pretending to buy everything on the J.Crew website.  I’m thinking this means I’m officially getting older.

What non-punk rock things are you doing that are making you lose street cred?

Welcome 2011

Happy New Year dear readers!  I hope you had a lovely holiday season and are as excited as me about 2011.  This year Asael and I spent Christmas with my family up at my sister’s Northern California home.  It was cold, rainy and windy the entire time we were there so it was absolutely necessary to get cozy by the fire place and play board games.  This year brought really great presents in addition to wonderful company, and I wanted to share with you a couple of my favorite things.

I enjoy reflecting on the year that has ended and making lists for the one that is about the begin.  2010 definitely marked a lot of positive changes in my life and I’m really excited to see where new opportunities take me.  Being laid off from the Central Library was probably one of the best things that happened to me in ’10 because it allowed me to finally invest the time into the real things I loved.

in 2011 I want to
- land this new job
- get back to my regular reading schedule, you can follow me on Goodreads here
- document all of my cooking & baking on the blog
- & 1,000 other things

Eat / French Market

I love meeting friends for brunch, especially if the cafe’s menu is French faire and delicious lattes are the standard.  French Market Cafe in Venice is such a relaxing spot to drink coffee and catch up with friends.  I was delighted even more when I perused their menu of French treats which offered dishes like croque monsieurs, crepes, and quiches.  Délicieux!  After deliberating over my choices, I finally went for an omelet with avocado, tomato and chevre.  To my surprise it also came with a toasted baguette and jam.  Paired with the honey latte, it was perfection.  They’ve got a great french market inside if you want to leave with your favorite french coffee, chocolates, and Paris Vogue.  Merci beaucoup to the lovely Nina who suggested the spot!

Walking down Abbot Kinney we had to stop at one of our favorite book stores, Equator Books.  You’ll even notice the amazing Miranda July in my photo of Asael looking at books.  Love her.  It was so cute seeing her and director Mike Mills (her husband) perusing the shelves. They have a superb selection of rare books so if you’re a fan of vintage book jackets like I am, I suggest you go take a look.
