So Nineties

I work in a library.  There are numerous benefits working in a building with 7 floors of books and access to a catalog of over 1 million.  Recently I began re-watching Beverly Hills 90210 from season 1 episode 1 (actually ep 0, the pilot) and I’ve been dying over the show’s wardrobe.  My style has already been infected with an early 90s influence but watching Brenda, Donna and especially Kelly strut around BH has got me foaming at the mouth for more 90s fashion images.

In our branch we have an amazing selection of archived Vogues.  I’ve already completed scanning the most inspiring images from Vogue 1990 and look forward to sharing them with you.  Archiving has proved to be one of the most amazing concepts developed by humankind and it was great to relive a year that I was too young to appreciate at the time.  A big thanks to friend/librarian Olivian for the help!

I welcome you to October 1990.  Model is wearing Pierre Cardin.  How amazing is this look?

A Big Butt and a Smile

If I Love You magazine wanted some big butts gracing their new issue, surely they could’ve given me a call because as many of you know, I’m willing and able.

The discourse as of late on various blogs and twitters has taken a turn towards the all too familiar question – why is there only one type of woman represented in fashion magazines? That woman, in case you’ve been asleep your whole life, is white, thin and wearing clothes you probably cannot afford. Suddenly a few “plus-size” models, er, Crystal Renn, are thrown into the pages of V Magazine and people are applauding the fashion industry’s baby step into acknowledging the existence of other women.  Finally, the validation we’ve all been waiting for! (note the sarcasm)

I cannot tell you where the inspiration for this editorial comes from.  The editor over at I Love Cat Party suggests that the spread was inspired by Joan from Mad Men, one of my favorite shows.  You know what I’d like to have seen?  Joan actually wearing these clothes.  Not a computer altered ass and boobs on your typical model (Katlin Aas).

Hansel, Gretal, & Gaga

A big thanks to the magnificent Grace Coddington for casting Lady Gaga as the old Witch (Hansel & Gretal) in the December issue of Vogue Magazine.  In addition, I vehemently support the resurrection of Lily Cole, as she has been one of my favorite models over the past 10 years.
