Succulent Potting

Succulent Potting with Natalie James, Fashion IntelAs you might already know, I hosted a Succulent Potting workshop this weekend at The Ace Hotel in Palm Springs. I was honored to be selected by (No Subject) to be one of the experts in their two-day Create+Cultivate workshop series.  Prepping for the event was really fun as I invited my mother to join me while I hit all of our favorite succulent spots, including the so-neccessary California Cactus Center in Pasadena. We had a blast looking through incredible selections of succulents, cacti, and ground coverings. After much browsing Home Depot became my one stop shop for my planting needs.  Having to prep for 20+ attendees meant I needed lots of cactus soil, potting soil, rocks, pots and a large variety of succulents; for my budget, they were just right.

The women (and one really cool dude) who attended my workshop were all super excited to get their hands dirty and to create something of their very own.  Nothing beats helping a group realize their love for succulents and letting them know that if they treat it right, it will always be there for them.  Positive energy was all around! I loved seeing it all come together and helping the workshop folk with whatever succulent question they had.  The experience was very rewarding, as I had the opportunity to share my long time love for succulents and made a lot of new friends in the process. Thank you to everyone who participated. I had so much fun and loved seeing all of you create something beautiful!

Here are some of their stunning creations. D.I.Y post to come!

Sneak Peak

For those of you who follow me on twitter (link), you might have read that I was collaborating with the A Collection Of (link) ladies on some really radical necklaces.  And you probably also read that there might be a giveaway of some really cool pieces, created by us, for you.  I have come to realize in the past few months that nothing feels more rewarding that creating something special for yourself and others.  Whether I am whipping up a batch of lemon curd or assembling a necklace for myself, I am always left with such a feeling of satisfaction.

Our necklace creations have only just begun so keep checking in to see what else we have generated.  I promise there is something fun in store for our dear readers.

Slings

This year has further nurtured the idea that making things for oneself is an incredibly fulfilling concept.  Not only am I making my life more sustainable, but I derive so much pleasure from producing my own goods.  Yesterday my boyfriend and I we were at a manor that had its own goats and I found myself yearning for that kind of atmosphere, but near a city of course.

I  have been scouring the internet for more and more things to create at home.  We’re working on a garden, I’ve been canning like crazy and now I’m going to start making homemade kraut.  But what about sewing and knitting things? That’s definitely on my list and I think I am going to start with these cool “storage slings” that I saw on Dwell Magazine’s website.  My friend Heather is a whiz at her sewing machine, so maybe she’d like to show me her ways and make them with me!
